Meet Our Team
Tracey Frisch
As Division Vice President of Mediation at the American Arbitration Association – International Center for Dispute Resolution, Tracey Frisch leads the Association’s mediation business.
Tracey also served as an Adjunct Professor at Pace University Law School teaching Commercial Arbitration Law and served as an adjunct Professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law supervising law student mediators. Tracey is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York pro bono mediation panel specializing in employment discrimination cases, a member of the New York County Lawyers Association Part 137 Attorney/Client Fee Dispute pro bono mediation panel and is a New York State certified community mediator. Tracey has mediated cases at many of Metropolitan New York’s community mediation centers, Small Claims and Civil Courts. Tracey has authored and spoken on numerous ADR focused topics.
Tracey earned her law degree, cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and B.A. from Tulane University, magna cum laude.
Rebecca Callahan
Rebecca Callahan is a full-time attorney neutral working in the fields of international and commercial arbitration and mediation. She is a member of the large complex case panel of the American Arbitration Association as both an arbitrator and master level mediator. She is also a member arbitration and mediation panels of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. Rebecca received her JD from the University of California at Berkeley and her BA from the University of Southern California. In 2007, she earned a LL.M. in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she has been an adjunct professor since 2010, teaching mediation, arbitration, and various professional skills courses in dispute resolution.
Dr. Clare Fowler
Dr. Clare Fowler is Executive Vice-President of ODR.com, recipient of the International Woman of Peace Award, 2024, and author of Rising Above Office Conflict: the light-hearted guide for the heavy-hearted employee.
Dr. Clare Fowler received her Doctorate on designing dispute resolution systems for small businesses from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education/Organizational Leadership and her Masters of Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law. Dr. Fowler also works as Managing Editor and with Caseload Manager at Mediate.com. She teaches at Pepperdine Straus Dispute Resolution Department and University of Oregon. Clare mediates and trains, focusing on workplace disputes. Dr. Fowler’s dissertation was a phenomenological study of Workplace disputes. Her 2023 book, Rising Above Office Conflict, is a guidebook for HR directors dealing with high conflict behaviors. Her motto for the dispute resolution field? Rising Tides Raise All Boats.
Joan Stearns Johnsen
Joan Stearns Johnsen, FCIArb, CEDR Accredited, IMI Certified, is an experienced neutral, trainer, and teacher. She is the Director of the Institute for Dispute Resolution at the University of Florida Levin College of Law where she teaches international arbitration, arbitration, mediation, and negotiation. Joan also regularly conducts corporate trainings and speaks and publishes regularly on dispute resolution. She has been quoted on NPR, CBS, and other news sources.
Joan has over thirty years’ experience as an arbitrator and mediator with particular expertise in financial services, mergers and acquisitions, entertainment, and other commercial disputes. She is a member of the American Arbitration Association mediation and arbitration panels as well as on a number of other panels. Prior to becoming a neutral Joan was an Enforcement Attorney for the Commodity Futures Commission in Washington, DC, Associate General Counsel for the Commodity Exchange, Inc. (now a Designated Contract Market within the CME Group) and Assistant Commodities Counsel for Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley Wealth Management) both in New York.
In addition to serving on the editorial board of the AAA’s mediate.com website. Joan is a member of the AAA’s Financial Services Advisory Committee, a past Chair of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, current Co-chair of the International Bar Association’s Mediation Committee, on the Council of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, and an academic board member of the Miami International Arbitration Society.
Jim Melamed
James C. (Jim) Melamed founded Mediate.com in 1996 and served as CEO for 25 years (through June 2020). Jim is currently "Founder and Senior Vice-President for Mediation" at the American Arbitration Association. During Jim’s tenure, Mediate.com received the American Bar Association’s 2010 Institutional Problem Solver Award.
Before Mediate.com, Jim founded The Mediation Center in Eugene, Oregon in 1983 and served as Executive Director of the Academy of Family Mediators (AFM) from 1987 to 1993. Jim was also the first President and Executive Director of the Oregon Mediation Association (1985-86). Jim’s undergraduate degree is in psychology from Stanford University and his law degree is from the University of Oregon.
Jim has received the following awards: The Oregon Mediation Association’s 2003 Award for Excellence and 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award; The Oregon State Bar’s 2006 Sidney Lezak Award of Excellence; The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) 2007 John Haynes Distinguished Mediator Award; and the 2012 Academy of Professional Family Mediators (APFM) “Getting To Yes” Award and 2018 APFM Outstanding Mediator Award.
Hon. Daniel A. Naranjo
Hon. Daniel A. Naranjo is a seasoned legal professional based in San Antonio, Texas, with over four decades of experience in the legal field. A former U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Texas (1981–1989), he has built a distinguished career as an attorney, mediator, arbitrator, and adjunct professor of law. He currently serves as President of the Law Offices of Dan A. Naranjo, P.C.
Judge Naranjo has been actively engaged in alternative dispute resolution since 1989, arbitrating and mediating complex commercial, employment, construction, securities, and education law matters. He is particularly noted for his work in Title VII and ADA disputes, as well as high-stakes commercial cases involving contracts, lender liability, and insurance bad-faith claims.
A U.S. Air Force veteran and former Captain in the Office of Special Investigations, Judge Naranjo holds a BA and JD from the University of Texas. He is admitted to practice before multiple federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also contributed to legal scholarship, co-authoring several articles and speaking extensively on mediation and ethics.
He has taught alternative dispute resolution as an adjunct professor at St. Mary's University School of Law and as a visiting professor at Pepperdine University. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Judge Naranjo is recognized for his integrity, legal acumen, and dedication to fair and effective dispute resolution.
