Susan Yates served on the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Task Force on Safety, which drafted the “Guidance for Physically Safe Conflict Resolution: A Bias-Resistant Approach.” ACR promulgated the safety guidance in 2025.

Susan has been a mediator since 1983. Since then, she has served in a variety of roles in conflict resolution and nonprofit leadership. Most notably, she was Executive Director of the nonprofit Resolution Systems Institute from 1998 to 2024, developing the organization from an idea to a nationally-recognized entity focused on improving access to justice by strengthening court alternative dispute resolution.

In 2024, Susan founded Susan Yates LLC, which provides consultation, facilitation, training and other services related to conflict resolution and nonprofit organizations.
